I Love to Cook
There are three things in life that bring me great happiness: cooking, going to the mountains with my family and skiing.
Each activity in itself however is a memory I associate with some type of food. I love food. I love to make food. And I love to eat food.
I adopted my love for cooking from my mom, she can make just about anything from breakfast and dinner to dessert. She taught me a lot of what I know which
I have been able to apply to my current minor, culinary arts. The best part about cooking is the joy that I get in sharing the items I make with others.
We all have a favorite food and when someone makes your favorite homemade item, it brings you back home. I grew up having homemade rolls and raspberry jam
every Sunday with dinner. Now I make homemade rolls on Sundays for my roommates and friends and when you take that first bite, everything just stops.
It takes you back. It makes me so happy cooking for other people because of how much it is enjoyed. Food is associated with memories and specific moments in
your life. Cooking will allow me to create those memories for somebody else. It puts a smile on your face. And that is what I love about it.
I am from Colorado and am the youngest of four. My family goes up to the mountains often to my grandma's townhome on the lake. My family loves boating and
playing on the lake including waterskiing, jet skiing and kayaking. However, one of the best parts of going to the mountains is going into the small town
about a mile away, walking along the boardwalk looking at the shops, and eating an ice cream cone! That will never get old and when I think about going to the mountains, I associate getting an ice cream cone with my family on the boardwalk.
During the winter months
I love to go skiing. I have been skiing since I was five and still enjoy going today. My favorite resort is Winter Park in Colorado
followed by Jackson Hole, Wyoming. There is no better feeling than the excitement you feel as you are riding up the chairlift for the first run of the day.
And as everything else, I associate some type of food with skiing: Peanut M&M's! My dad always had them for us to snack on as we rode up the chairlift.
When I eat Peanut M&M's, I am immediately brought to that moment. So many holidays and family traditions involve memories that include food.
It is amazing the powerful influence something you eat can have on your life. Food brings great joy and lasting memories for both yourself and other people.
This is why I love food, and this is why I love to cook. It is my happiness.
