In the last year I really got into cooking. I had never really attempted too many complicated recipies, but once I picked a few that seemed tough, I realized, I can do this! I have discovered a love for cooking, it helps me to relax, get my mind off things, and I have really come to enjoy finding new recipes to cook.
Coming to college I did not really have too many recipes that I cooked on hand. Just a few of the simple things my Mom and Sister taught me growing up. In the last year my Sister gave me a cook book, authored by a woman named Ree Drummond who uses the pen name, The Pioneer Woman. I started with simpler recipes like chicken spaghetti, and homemade macaroni and cheese. I have branched to other delicious recipes like chicken-parmigiana, cajun chicken pasta and even brisket, which is always a huge hit! I also have learned to bake things from scratch and not just a box mix anymore. It really has become a hobby for me and helped me test myself to see what I could accomplish. Cooking was a field that I never thought I could conquer, but alas I was able to help my Grandma this year prepare, cook and serve our family Thanksgiving dinner, something I feel not too many twenty-three year olds do! My roommate and I were preparing for a Sunday dinner with some friends earlier this week, and we got to talking about what brought us to cook. We laughed as we both realized that being up here in Idaho it was boredom that brought us to try some new recipes. Cooking is something that is so fun to me becuase people get to enjoy something that I have created. The conversations that happen most frequently between my sister and I these days consist of us swapping recipes or telling each other something we have made that we like. I have really enjoyed the joys that cooking can bring me. I even find myself getting pretty excited when I find a cool cook book app for my phone, or come across a new recipe for a treat. Cooking also makes me happy to see the happiness it brings friends when I surprise them with new treats. Definitely glad that I have adventured to new depths and am almost ready to start conquering a new hobby!
I will not lie to you right here. This class has definitely been one of the harder courses I've taken since being here, but I actually have enjoyed it. There have been so many nights that I have been frustrated with something I couldn't get to work, but I am coming out of this class with way more information than I ever thought I would. I never realized how much work goes into creating a website. I now have acquired a new set of skills to even put something basic together.
The new skills that i hold can help me to be able to put together a site one day, or edit one already in existance. I won't lie to you here either, since this course has been tough for me part of me hopes I don't have to make a website from scratch again. But I have learned so many new skills that I never would have thought that I could do. Creating a site definitely has tons of time put into it and I applaud those that can fully grasp how to create a really beautiful site. It has definitely been a learning semester for me and I am happy for it.
