Into Advertising

Comm 310 Projects:

Advertising

It all started when I was younger, my dad and I would watch the Superbowl together and we would get so excited for the commercials. Also when I was in the fourth grade every week we would do a mock newscast and my favorite part was doing the commercials. From then on I became fascinated with art, design and being creative. One of my life goals is to create a commercial advertisement that gets a spot during the Superbowl. What I really enjoy about advertising is the challenge that comes with it. It takes a lot of time and creativity to create campaigns for products, services, and companies.

Because I want to work in the field of advertising I have become a member of the BYU-Idaho chapter of AAF (American Advertising Federation). In this class we compete against other colleges in the NSAC (National Student Advertising Competition), we work during one school year to create a complete integrated advertising campaign for a certain company. Last year it was jcpenney and we created a really amazing campaign and because of it we were the district champions and we had the opportunity to compete at the national level where we got 14th place out of the 146 other colleges, not too bad for our first try.

I do hope to one day work for a large advertising agency where I would get to work with big companies like Nike, General Motors, and Apple. I really have an interest in the film and television industry and would love to work in-house for NBC, ABC, or FOX. I don't just think I am good at advertising I also love doing it, I feel like it is a career that I will enjoy through out my life and I hope to be able to.

How this applies to HTML and CSS

Because I enjoy advertising I feel that it is important to keep up with all the different mediums that I could potentially use to advertise. I have learned a lot in this class, I feel that I really went from knowing absolutely nothing about making a website to feeling like I can create a decent website layout. I have learned a lot about HTML and the proper use of tags. I learned that although I can just use a div tag, there is probably a better tag I can use instead. I learned how to create the basic layout in HTML so its easier to add the CSS into the mix to make it more eye-catching

There is so much that I learned in CSS that I feel like I have just scratched the surface. I feel I do understand the basic principles behind CSS and I think if I remember that, all the rest will just come as I learn more and more. Also I feel that this will help me in my future career because if I had to design a website for a client, I would know what is possible and what is not and also it would be easier for me to talk with the programmers cause I would have a basic knowledge of what they are doing.
