Into Traveling

Comm 310 Projects:

Traveling

This summer I had the opportunity to intern in London, England. I was actually scared to go there because I have a fear of flying, but I decided it was worth the anxiety. I found myself in an unknown country with a new culture and customs. This began my addiction for traveling.

While in the United Kingdom I was able to travel to Wales, Scotland and many cities throughout England. I love the adventure that came with hopping on a train late at night after work and then hours later being in a completely different environment. The feel and atmosphere of each new place brought about a bug that made me want to see more.

The people in each new place also brought about new friendships and awareness. I learned so much about my own culture and self from talking to people who had different views. While in each place I also got to enjoy the cuisine they each had to offer. I really enjoyed trying the different foods in each city and experiencing the flavors each area brought to the table. By seeing more places it just made me realize how little I have seen and how many more adventures I have yet to encounter.

Practice Makes Perfect...Almost

One of the most important principles I learned in this class was how important practice is when mastering HTML, CSS and PHP. It is one thing to learn in theory how things should work in class, but a lot different when applying them. Things go wrong when practicing and a lot of time I felt that it was a matter of trial and error. Even when you have what you think it correct code, double check it. There were many times I looked over simple errors because they looked right at first glance, but in actuality was holding back my site from performing as I wanted it to.

I also found that it was really important to have a design in mind when trying to create a website. Without that sketch it makes the CSS very difficult because you don't know where anything should be placed. It was a lot more effective when I created a wireframe and even further design elements to complete my HTML and CSS. I am grateful to this class for expanding my thinking and helping me to essentially learn a completely new language.
